Frequently asked questions

Who are PLANET MTB tours designed for?

PLANET MTB tours are built for intermediate to advanced riders who want an unforgettable riding experience without the stress of organising everything themselves. Whether you’re chasing progression, adventure, epic trails or simply the best week possible on a bike, our trips are designed to deliver exactly that.

Do I need to be an elite rider to join?

Definitely not.

You don’t need to be a racer or pro rider to have an incredible time on our tours. We simply recommend riders are comfortable riding blue trails confidently, with most guests typically sitting in the intermediate to advanced category.

We also split groups where needed to keep the experience flowing for everyone.

Are flights included?

Flights are not included.

This gives riders flexibility to:

  • use points
  • extend holidays
  • fly from different locations
  • choose preferred airlines

Once you book, we’ll provide recommended flight times and arrival info to make everything seamless.

Are coaching sessions included?

Our trips are experience-first, not structured coaching camps - but optional coaching and ride guidance is available throughout the week at no added cost!

Some riders simply want to explore and ride with the crew, while others want help progressing their riding. We cater for both.

Can non-riders come on the trip?

Absolutely.

Many of our destinations are incredible travel locations beyond just the riding. We offer dedicated non-rider packages so partners, friends or family can still experience the trip with access to accommodation, activities and local experiences.

Also, for riders under 18 years old, they MUST have a parent/guardian attend as a rider OR non rider.

Do I need to bring my own bike?

You can either:

  • bring your own bike
  • or organise a premium rental bike through our local partners at a discounted rate

We’re happy to help recommend the best option depending on your riding style and destination.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The advantage of travelling with experienced local partners is knowing how to adapt.

If conditions change, we adjust riding locations, timings and plans to ensure the best possible experience throughout the trip. Some of the best riding days happen when you know exactly where to go.

Is the Pro Travel Pack worth it?

If you don't already own a bike bag - DEFINITELY!

If you're bringing your own bike along on a tour, we STRONGLY recommend using a proper bike bag to protect your pride and joy on the flight rather than a traditional bike box. We have seen bikes serverly damaged by baggage handlers, and that's a quick way to ruin your trip!

We've partnered with Albek and Maxxis to provide our participants with the best gear in the business at prices you won't find anywhere else but on a Planet MTB tour!

Which meals are included?

Three group dinners are included as part of your Planet MTB experience. These are some of the highlights of the trip, bringing the group together to share stories from the trails, enjoy great food, and experience some of the best dining venues our destination has to offer.

Breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and additional dinners are not included. Instead, we've intentionally left plenty of flexibility in the itinerary so you can explore Queenstown's incredible food scene at your own pace. From world-famous burgers and casual cafés to premium restaurants and lakeside dining, there are options to suit every taste and budget.

Each day, we'll let the group know where the Planet MTB staff and guides are heading for dinner, and you're more than welcome to join us if you'd like to keep the good times rolling after a day on the bike. If you'd prefer to do your own thing, we're always happy to provide recommendations based on what you're chasing, whether that's the best coffee in town, a quick lunch between laps, a great pub meal, or a memorable dinner with friends.
